Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 11, 2026
GeoLog Field is an offline-first field geology application developed by Berk Akdag. This Privacy Policy explains how the application handles project data, location information, photographs, purchases and other information used while operating the app.
1. Information stored on your device
GeoLog Field may store the following information locally on your device when you create or edit a project:
- Project names and project settings
- Geological observations and notes
- Sample records and sample classifications
- Drillhole collar, survey, lithology and assay information
- Map drawings, geological features and sections
- Measurements and recorded tracks
- Coordinates, elevations and related spatial information
- Photographs attached to observations or samples
- App preferences and display settings
This information is used only to provide the functions requested by you within GeoLog Field.
2. Location information
GeoLog Field uses device location services for field mapping features such as My Position, coordinate capture and Track Recording.
My Position and object creation
When you choose My Position, the app may use your current device location to display your position or assign coordinates to a geological object that you create.
Background Track Recording
GeoLog Field requests Always Location permission only when you choose to use the Track Recording feature and background recording requires that permission.
Your location is collected for the track only while Track Recording is active. When Track Recording is stopped, GeoLog Field stops recording location points for that track.
GeoLog Field does not use background location to continuously monitor your movements when Track Recording is not active.
Recorded track coordinates are stored as part of your local project data and are not automatically transmitted to the developer.
3. Photographs and camera access
GeoLog Field may request access to the camera or photo library when you choose to attach a photograph to an observation or sample.
Selected or captured photographs are stored with the corresponding project record. They are not automatically uploaded to the developer.
4. Maps and internet access
GeoLog Field may use internet access to display online map content provided by Apple Maps. Map availability and map-service data handling are governed by Apple and the device operating system.
Core project records can remain available locally, but online map content may be unavailable when the device does not have an internet connection.
5. Import, export and sharing
GeoLog Field allows you to import, export and share supported project, tabular and geographic files.
Data leaves the app only when you initiate an export or sharing action, or when you import information from a location that you select.
Exported files may be handled by other apps, cloud-storage providers, email services or recipients that you select. Their handling of those files is governed by their own privacy policies.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
GeoLog Field may offer subscriptions or other purchases through Apple's App Store.
Payments are processed by Apple. GeoLog Field does not receive or store your complete payment-card information. The app may receive purchase or entitlement status required to activate premium features.
7. Accounts, advertising and analytics
The current version of GeoLog Field does not require you to create a developer-operated user account.
GeoLog Field does not use geological project data for advertising and does not sell your project data to third parties.
The current version does not include developer-operated cloud sync or automatic project-data analytics.
8. Data sharing
GeoLog Field does not automatically share your geological project records, photographs or recorded tracks with the developer or with third parties.
Information may be transferred only when:
- You explicitly export or share data
- You use an operating-system or third-party sharing service
- Processing is required by Apple for App Store purchases
- Disclosure is required by applicable law
9. Data retention and deletion
Project data remains on your device until you delete the relevant records, delete the project or remove the application.
Files that you previously exported or shared must be deleted separately from the location or service where they were saved.
Device backups may retain application data according to your device and backup settings.
10. Data security
GeoLog Field uses the storage and security mechanisms provided by the operating system. You are responsible for protecting access to your device, exported files and any storage locations where you save project data.
11. Children's privacy
GeoLog Field is a professional field geology application and is not directed toward children under the age of 13.
12. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when GeoLog Field features or data-handling practices change. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
